Getting started with Hot Yoga TNT is easy! Whether you’re taking your first yoga class or it’s been a while since you’ve practiced with us, you can start your yoga practice again with these easy steps.

When you arrive for your first class, let the front desk know it’s your first time. We’d like to show you around and get you set for class. Please come 15 minutes early. We understand how precious your time is! Each class begins promptly on time and ends promptly on time. Our classes are a very specific prescription, designed to rebuild your body from the inside out and they all start with an unmissable breathing exercise.

HOW TO PREPARE

Show up 15 minutes before class starts so we can sign you up, give you the tour and get you comfortable in the hot room. Bring or buy with your first timers discount:  a reusable water bottle, yoga mat and 2 towels. We sell the best quality mats for hot yoga at the best price. Purchase one when you come in the door for your first visit and you get $10 off! You can also rent mats and towels if you prefer to leave your laundry to us. You choose. Wear: tight fitting shorts and tops. Sports bras are a good choice for women and t-shirts are optional for men. We keep the room at 40 degrees and 40 percent humidity. You are gonna sweat! The less that impedes your sweat, the better. We have showers and change rooms so bring that extra towel for freshening up after. Hydration: Be well hydrated. You can’t meet your hydration needs effectively during class. You need to take care of it before and after. Food: Make sure your stomach is empty! Minimum 2 hours without food before you come to class. That way your body can focus on sweating and breathing, undistracted by the demands of digestion. Set 2 goals: 1) take the 2nd class within 24 hours and 2) practice 10 times in the first 30 days (or as many as possible!).

How do I get started?

The best option is to sign up online. Once you have purchased you can also sign up for your first class. We re looking forward to meeting you and getting you started on this amazing journey. Health and wellness for the rest of your life!

How hydrated should I be before class?

VERY hydrated. Water is the best friend to healing and healthy joints and muscles!! You will find that class will be much easier if you drink water throughout the day. Try to avoid caffeine and alcohol as much as possible before class. Hydration levels vary for every body type, so err on the side of caution and drink lots of water (2 Liters+) all day long!

What about eating before class?

Try to not eat at least 2 hours before class…you may feel nauseous or tired.

What should I wear/bring to class?

The room is heated and you are going to sweat! No fear, the sweat is the best part. It is best to wear clothing that allows your skin to breathe. Women: tight fitting shorts/ spandex and a jog bra or t-shirt. Men: close fitting shorts/ spandex. T-shirts are optional. For your convenience we have yoga mats for sale and rent. We also sell bottled water. Or do the planet a favour and buy one of our refillable stainless steel bottles.

Do you have separate classes for beginners?

All classes are open to all levels, beginners and advanced students alike. Having advanced students in class with you is helpful. Use them as resources. Remember, they too, had their first class once and look at how far they’ve come!

Why the heated room?

The heat is your friend in Bikram yoga! And we don’t call it Inferno Pilates for nothing. The studio is heated to an average temperature of 40 degrees to help each student achieve their goals of increased flexibility, detoxification and mental clarity. Cold, stiff muscles have limited range of motion. When the room is warm…so are your muscles. Warm muscles are more receptive to transformation, enabling you to get a deeper stretch. Other benefits of the heat include: body detoxification (a full body facial), blood thinning to clear the circulatory system, increased heart rate for a better cardiovascular workout, and improved strength by putting muscle tissue in optimal state for reorganization.

What if I hate the heat?

If the heat creates extreme discomfort for you, don’t get discouraged; the challenge of the heat is mostly mental. The physiological response to the heat is a matter of adaptation. Your body will actually teach itself how to respond to the heat in about 4 classes, as long as you take them all close together, at least 2 a week. The good news is that adaptation to challenges like the high heat environment of the bikram yoga studio produces health! Your body’s improving ability to sweat, to breathe, to raise and lower blood pressure and heart rate are the foundations of good health. These underlying components of good health are always addressed in the Bikram yoga practice. That’s why it’s ok to do as little or as much as you can with the postures. You’re getting all the benefits just by trying!

Is the routine the same every time?

For good reason. The body and mind are always different so the postures, and their order, don’t ever get boring. The Bikram series is scientifically designed the series so that one posture opens a specific area of the body in preparation for the next posture. By practicing the same order every class you will be able to mark your improvement. Remember, this is a lifetime practice that can always improve, deepen and advance!

Can I lose weight?

Absolutely! However, consistency is the key to success. Losing weight is easy but maintaining the results can provide a challenge. If you practice this Bikram yoga with dedication and patience you WILL absolutely LOSE WEIGHT and KEEP IT OFF! You will also gain muscle tone and strength to give your body definition and beauty.

Is it a cardiovascular workout?

You’ll be amazed at the cardiovascular workout you get in a short 90-minute class! No matter what level of fitness you are this yoga will be a challenge you never outgrow. To get the most cardiovascular work you must HOLD the posture for the full count and work with an honest 100% effort.

How often should I come to class?

How quickly do you want good things to happen to you? It’s simple. The more you attend class, the faster the body will blossom. For good results, students are encouraged to attend at least 3 classes per week. There is no such thing as too many classes a week. Your body is that amazing.

What if I can only come once or twice a week?

Coming only one or two days a week will provide you with all the wonderful benefits only you won’t see the results as quickly. You will, however, feel the benefits after every class, no matter how infrequently you practice. Come when you can and make each class your escape to a world of wellness.

What if I’m not flexible?

Have no fear. Most first time students share the same concern and that’s why we are here! Flexibility is your birthright… you’ve just got to get it back. Don’t let your inflexibility keep you away! You don’t have to be flexible to do yoga. Just come, try, and see your flexibility improve!
