As hot yoga practitioners, we continually strive to improve our practice and strengthen our foundation. We push ourselves, even while respecting our body’s current limitations of strength and range of motion. Last month we discussed how to get the most out of your hot yoga practice by focusing on the basics. In 2016 we’re expanding on that philosophy. Hot Yoga TNT now offers periodic clinics where we’ll carefully examine each of the 26 hot yoga asanas.
Focus 90 Posture Clinics are Here!
We’ll kick off the Focus 90 Posture Clinics at noon on Saturday, January 23rd at the Hot Yoga TNT North York studio. During this two-hour clinic, we’ll turn down the heat, slow everything down, break each movement apart and focus on the essential details of each asana.
Perhaps you’re putting too much pressure on your head and neck in Rabbit pose. Maybe you get dizzy in Camel pose. You might find it impossible to keep both hips down during Spine Twisting pose. We’ll spend two hours in conversation and exploration of each of the 26 hot yoga asanas.
Focus 90 isn’t a yoga class. There will be two instructors in each clinic of 20 of less. Each pose is modeled by a certified instructor. You’ll receive individual confirmation or correction to help you achieve maximum health benefits from each posture.
Who Should Attend Focus 90?
Whether you are new to the practice or familiar with the series, Focus 90 will provide insight into the whys of the practice.
Focus 90 is ideal for those who are brand new to hot yoga. Your practice will begin on a solid foundation. You’ll cultivate a deep understanding of each pose and a keen awareness of how to perform them safely while being mindful of your body.
Like hot yoga, the Focus 90 Posture Clinic is also ideal for current and long-time practitioners. Perhaps you’ve been practicing for a while, but still find it impossible to hold Balancing Stick pose. Maybe you can’t get full extension in Bow pose. Focus 90 provides the perfect opportunity to work more closely with a certified hot yoga instructor who’ll help you achieve your best possible form in each pose.
Give yourself a jump start or experience an awakening as you strengthen your foundation and improve your form.
What You’ll Gain from Focus 90
Our goal for the Focus 90 Posture Clinic is to provide the tools to develop a satisfying, lifetime practice. Learn how to work smart not just hard, so that you get the most from your practice. You’ll discover tips for performing each pose precisely, while also listening to your body. As you deepen your practice your awareness of what’s happening with your body multiplies—on the mat and off.
The original hot yoga, practiced here at Hot Yoga TNT, is therapeutic. A continued practice helps us achieve strength, flexibility and balance. With consistent, ongoing practice, the prescribed series of asanas realigns the spine and relieves a variety of aches and pains. Hot yoga’s healing effects on the mind and body are well worth the challenge.
If you’ve been hesitant to give hot yoga a try or reluctant to continue the practice because of challenging poses, Focus 90 will provide practical tips on proper form and answer all of your questions about the postures. Most of all, you’ll develop confidence and muscle memory that will be invaluable to you in class.
Concentrating on so many different factors during an asana might feel intimidating, at first. For instance, in Standing Head to Knee pose you’re equally distributing your weight on the standing foot, the knee is locked and you’re pressing your big toe into the floor to stay grounded. Your raised foot is flexed. Your elbows are bent. The chin is tucked into the chest. The spine is rounded. It may feel impossible to do everything at once. In that way, yoga is much like driving a car.
When you first learned to drive, you were probably just as overwhelmed by all of the individual actions required to operate a vehicle. You have to watch the road, monitor your speed, stay in your lane, mind the traffic signs and work the pedals while obeying traffic laws. Perhaps it seemed impossible to manage everything, at first. However, the more you practiced, the easier it became. Over time, these individual tasks came automatically, requiring very little thought. Something similar happens during our yoga practice.
Join us for our Focus 90 Posture Clinic on Saturday, January 23rd at noon. See demonstrations of each of the 26 poses. Get tips on how to execute each asana precisely while working within your current range of motion. Improve your postures with individual confirmations and corrections. Broaden your knowledge during question and answer session.
You’ll learn how to apply the principle of less is more to take your yoga practice to the next level and receive maximum health benefits.
